A Free Holiday Treat for Seattleites

December 10, 2011

If you are in the Seattle area and you need something fun and holiday-themed to do, try visitng Swansons Nursery.  For the low price of $0 (free!) you can visit the two reindeer (Dasher and Blitzen) and the camel and donkey (Curley and Moe)at their Annual Reindeer Festival.  While you are there, grab your Christmas tree, you will be absolutely spoiled for choice.  They have wonderful cut trees, live trees and even artificial trees.  Does the idea of a live tree appeal to you, but you worry about where it will go after the holiday season is over?  Swansons has a solution.  They teamed up with the Seattle Parks Department to start the “Trees for Salmon” program.  You buy a live tree at Swansons, use it in your home for the season, and then return in to Swansons where it will be used in Seattle park restoration efforts.  If you need other items for bringing holiday cheer to your home, Swansons can oblige.  They have a plethora of greenery for decking the halls, garlands, ornaments and baubles for that tree you just picked out, and a very well selected collection of gift items.  And when you are worn out from all the shopping and chilled from the crisp winter air, head inside to Alexa’s Garden Cafe for a tasty treat and a warm beverage.

Here are a few photos I took during my most recent visit.

This is Ruby the Red-Nosed Reindeer. I cannot guarantee you will see this particular reindeer, this was a very rare siting!
